Bear Mountain, Peters Creek: Picked lots of blueberries and crowberries. Lots of green blueberries still. Crowberries perfect.
September 2
Carlo Creek, Cantwell/Denali Park: On trails into alpine areas. Some of the best red currants I’ve seen, growing like grapes in a vineyard. Ripe and delicious and incredibly plentiful. Many ripe blueberries, juicy but not as tasty as the Fairbanks berries. Many ripe crowberries and other alpine berries.
August 16
Murphy Dome, Goldstream: Blueberries galore, some too far gone. Picked blue along with very good crowberries. Lowbush cranberries all over, not ripe yet. Blueberries and raspberries still good on Ester Dome.
August 7
Ester Dome: Ester: Lots of good raspberries right now. Picked tons. Blueberries have been great everywhere; Murphy Dome, Angel Rocks, etc. but it’s too hot out. Highbush cranberry is red and juicy but still tart.
July 24
Murphy Dome, Fairbanks: Blueberries are perfect. Big and juicy. A few still not ripe. Picked a ton, with some crowberries too. Crowberry and black bearberry are ripe. Lowbush cranberries are two thirds ripe and there are lots.
June 28
Donnelly Dome, Delta Junction: Gathered eskimo potato, coltsfoot, labrador tea, rose petals, fireweed, arnica. Wind like a hot blow dryer.
September 8
Murphy Dome, Fairbanks: Picked lowbush cranberry, crowberry, and black bearberry. Too late for blues but picked one single berry…
July 26
Hatcher Pass, Fishhook: Lowbush cranberries at Summit Lake are 1/2 to 2/3 ripe. Down by Little Susitna River picked an okay amount of red currants. Picked a good amount of watermelon berries. Highbush cranberries are half green half red.
July 24
Hatcher Pass, Fishhook: Many ripe red currants. Several ripe watermelon berries. Blueberries are just turning blue.
