Ester Dome, Ester: Pollen everywhere, Fairbanks broke world birch pollen record this year apparently. Good spruce tips and red cones (berry-like.) Red currants have small green berries. Blueberries have tons of flowers. Also flowering is highbush cranberry, bluebell, labrador tea, soapberry, nagoonberry, coltsfoot and many wildflowers. Wild rose has no flowers yet.

September 2

Carlo Creek, Cantwell/Denali Park: On trails into alpine areas. Some of the best red currants I’ve seen, growing like grapes in a vineyard. Ripe and delicious and incredibly plentiful. Many ripe blueberries, juicy but not as tasty as the Fairbanks berries. Many ripe crowberries and other alpine berries.
