South Fork Eagle River Trail, Eagle River: Crowberries and blueberries have some green and some ripe berries. Lots of ripe trailing raspberries. Some old trailing black currants and watermelon berries around. Lowbush cranberry is red/unripe and bearberry is mostly green. Prolific mushroom time here like everywhere.
August 13
Hatcher Pass, Willow: Caterpillar outbreak, eating lots of the plants including berry plants. (I think it’s rusty tussock moth.)
August 11
Tangle Lakes, Paxson: Picked bulk blueberries. Plenty to be had both ripe and unripe. Crowberries are ready but unripe in big areas. Alpine bearberries are perfect, and pretty tasty for bearberries. Lowbush cran are red and unripe. Bearberries (kinnikinnick) unripe, some turning red. Lots of soapberries are ready in sunny spots. People eating plenty of edible mushrooms.
August 4
Woods, Wasilla: Super good watermelon berries and raspberries on various powerline trails. Some red currants still remaining here and there.
August 2
Bodenburg Butte, Butte: Picked lots of really good serviceberries. Also some raspberries. Elderberries are perfect here and doing great/healthy just like they are in the whole Valley.
August 1
Winner Creek, Girdwood: Salmonberries are ripe, with plenty still unripe. Picked some blueberries. Highbush cranberries are about half red.
August 17
Crow Creek Road, Girdwood: Picked some highbush blueberries (early and alaska.) Some ready, others not ripe. Not a great year. Too late for salmonberries. Many trailing raspberries, some ripe and others overripe and mushed.
August 15
Woods, Wasilla: picked lots of ripe highbush cranberries. Basically nice berries, most ripe enough.
August 7
Swamp land, Big Lake: Picked ripe crowberries (perfect) and a few blueberries. Lowbush cranberries are about half ripe. Lowbush cran in many spots in the Valley don’t seem to have many berries this year compared to other years. Bog cranberries seem about half ripe.
August 6
Woods, Wasilla: Picked lots more watermelon berries from powerline trails. Some getting overripe.
